For this book report we are making a picture book.
Page 1 Prologue
A long time ago, when castles were made, and battles raged, (ohhhh it rhymes, and I don't write like this and its very poetic :) ) and when magic still existed, a king was lost in the woods (I can't rhyme that :( ). Though embarrassed, he called out for help. An old woman steeped out from behind a tree and would help under not but one condition, to marry her beautiful daughter. When the king saw the young woman with dark eyes and raven hair, with bone white skin and blood red lips, he agreed. Then the old woman led the king with her daughter through short cuts and secret ways until the king recognized the place. Off galloping upon the horse with the old woman's daughter to his castle and married her.
The king had six sons and one daughter from his previous marriage. He thought the current queen would get rid of his children so he had his children live in a forest, with a path so confusing that the king needed a magic ball of yarn to get out. But soon the queen wondered where the king went out for so long and must have no secrets from her. So, she questioned the servant, but they wouldn't say. After threatening by showing them a closet of mummified cats and frogs, bubbling potions, meat eating plants, claws, and dried skulls and bones. Then a fool told her about the castle and children. Although he wasn't a foolish enough to mention only six sons, and not the daughter.
So, the enraged queen made six shirts, with secret designs woven into the fabric. Then, she swung out the gates and six boys came rushing out. When the boys came out, thinking their father had come to visit, the queen tossed the shirts on the bays. Instantly the brothers turned to swans and flew a way.
The next morning the king came over to the castle, he only found her daughter. he asked what happened to them, and the princess replied, "a pale withe black hair and red lips turned them to swans."
"That stuff only happens within dreams," replied the king,
But the daughter took out six swan feathers, as proof. So the king had his daughter go to the (the king's) castle. But the daughter would hear none of this, because what if my brothers return, she asked. The king allowed his daughter to stay until tomorrow. In the morning the princess took some food and set out into the forest to look for her brothers. Before night fall she reached a cottage, so she entered and went to sleep. When she woke up it was already dark. Then six swans flew in one by one and turned into her brothers. They told her to go, but she wouldn't. So the eldest brother explained "we are only swans for a portion of the day, only allowing us to eat and sleep. You can't stay because robbers live here."
"There has to be a way to free you of this curse!" exclaimed the princess.
"There is, but is is but it is too hard, and no one would do it. But seeing we can't stop you, I shall tell you, my sister. You must make six shirts out out of starwort, which shall break easily and frustrate you and out of nettle, which shall prick you. Also, You must not speak, cry or laugh for six years, and can't explain your silence. On the last day of those six years we shall come to you and you must put the shirts on us, and we shall once more be humans."
So the determined princess went to where the nettle grew and driven on by love for her brothers, weaved. One sunny day, a young king and two other men were hunting and they stumbled upon the princess. Eventually, the king got her down the tree and asked for marriage. She agreed, buts still didn't talk. Then the determined princess took the shirt, nettle, and starwort, and set off with the men.
When they married , they were happy couples, but the king's mother despised her. When her first baby was born, she didn't even speak in happiness. But soon after the baby's birth, someone crept into the room and took the baby. Before the person left that person dabbed blood onto her lips. The next day the princess (now queen), was startled when her baby was gone. But even when she was accused a witch, the queen didn't even utter a sound. This very thing happened again when she had another baby, and was once again protected from the king of being accused and a witch. When the third child was born, she was guarded by the guards. Still, in the night a secret panel in the roof moved, and someone descended, took the baby, and before the person left, dabbed blood on her lips.
This time, even the king could protect her. On the day she was to be executed, was end of the six years, and she wove madly. Outside in the courtyard a stake was being covered with dry twigs. When the time of the execution began, the queen had not finished the left sleeve of the smallest shirt, and was tied to the stake. Right before the executioner lit the fire, six swans descended from the sky and beat the everyone around the stake with their powerful wings, and bowed to the queen. She then threw the shirts onto each swan and they turned into young handsome youths and cut their sister's bonds. then she explained everything, now that she could talk. The king instantly took out his sword and put it to the executioner's neck, and threatened him to tell everything. He told that he was ordered to take the babies by the king's mother and assured them that they were safe. One of the brothers then said that they shouldn't waste the stake, and use it upon the real witch, the king's mother. So then everything was almost perfect, but the youngest brother, whose left sleeve had a left wing instead of a left arm.
